Today the Country Liberal Party has announced two more highly experienced Territorians to join the team of candidates contesting the 2020 Northern Territory Election. Tony Schelling has been preselected to run as the CLP’s candidate in Casuarina and Brian O’Gallagher in Karama. Tony Schelling made the Territory his home in his early 20s, after transferring with Westpac and working in various locations across the NT, before he settled his young family in Nakara. In the true Country Liberal spirit, Tony branched out into his own small business. A respected member of the Professional Mortgage and Finance Industry in the Northern Territory, with 40 years Banking and Finance experience, including 25 years in mortgage broking, Tony estimates he has helped more than 5000 territory families into their own homes. A passionate supporter of junior sports, as a pathway for future success, Tony has played, coached and been involved at a club level with basketball and footy. He is a Life Member of Casuarina Kiwanis Service Club. “I’m passionate that junior sports can be an education pathway, leading to employment, self-respect and a future for young people here. We must encourage all people in the NT who are capable of working, to aspire to worthwhile employment with opportunities for self-determination,” Mr Schelling said. Brian O'Gallagher has spent the last five years as Deputy CEO of the Chamber of Commerce NT. As a very loud and public champion for small and medium businesses here in the Territory, he sincerely describes as them ‘heart and soul’ of our economy. As an architect of the Chamber’s much publicised 2019 and 2020 Business Confidence Surveys, Brian has been in close contact and heard the pain of many committed local business people who have been devastated by the performance of the Labor Government. “Small and family business is the backbone of our Territory economy, we must support them and provide them with the environment to succeed. Now more than ever certainty is needed and only a Finocchiaro led CLP Government will restore that confidence,” Mr O’Gallagher said. “I will fight to reduce the red, green and beige tape this current government has imposed on hardworking business, the businesses that employ Territorians.” President of the CLP Ron Kelly said he could not be more pleased that Tony and Brian have chosen to stand for and have been endorsed as candidates for the CLP. “After all we are the party of small business,” Mr Kelly said. “Now, more than ever, the Territory needs members of parliament with real world experience and that’s exactly what we have with the 2020 candidates. Rest assured the Country Liberal Party is out talking, listening and reassuring Territorians that the future is bright, we are here to help rebuild, and more importantly an elected CLP Government will get the Territory growing again,” Opposition Leader, Lia Finocchiaro said.
