Labor's Park Fees: What will Territorians be Slugged with Next... 19 January 2021
Deputy Leader of the Opposition, Gerard Maley, is calling on the Chief Minister to come clean about Labor’s plans to impose entrance fees on Territory National Parks to try and offset the Government’s woeful handling of the NT economy.
“This revenue raising measure was earmarked in the 2019 Budget, but disappeared from last years’ budget papers. There was no mention of the levy in the lead up to the August election, so what else is this Gunner Labor Government waiting to spring on Territorians? Will fishing licences be next? Or boat registration? We just don’t know.
“This Government needs to get on with fixing the economy, attracting private investment and creating jobs rather than looking for sneaky ways to raise money.
“They can’t tax their way back to prosperity.
“The Labor Government has been caught out trying to implement a major change without consulting with Territorians, or local tourism operators, and is now frantically back peddling after being overwhelmed by the wave of public outrage,” said Mr Maley.
