Labor’s idea of scrutiny makes you shake your head
The Gunner Government had weeks to prepare to be open and transparent about the state of the books through today’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC) hearings, but the Government failed to deliver, Opposition Leader Lia Finocchiaro said today.
“At a time of crisis the Gunner Government needs to be more transparent and accountable than ever before,” Mrs Finocchiaro said.
“The Gunner Government failed to provide treasury actuals prior to, or during the public hearing. We are none the wiser as to the true state of the books.
“Territorians deserve to understand what our debt and deficit position looks like now and what the forecasts are going forward. There is no budget, no estimates and we don’t know when we are going to see the numbers, if at all.
“Because of Labor’s economic and financial mismanagement over 3 ½ years the Territory entered the COVID-19 crisis in a weakened position.
“Territorians will lose out here. The Gunner Government doesn’t want to face up to scrutiny. It doesn’t want to be open and accountable about its use of public money.
“If a Country Liberal Party Government is elected that attitude will change. I guarantee that,” Mrs Finocchiaro concluded.
