Minister Uibo needs to provide clarity on Term 2 for families and workplaces
There is no doubt the messages about how and where Territory students will be schooled during Term 2 are confusing for students, parents and school professionals who are trying to plan ahead, Opposition Leader Lia Finocchiaro said today. “Selena Uibo is saying students should expect to attend Term 2 and that schools will remain open and safe, but she also says she’s considering flexible and adaptable models which could include school packs being sent home. It’s very confusing,” Mrs Finocchiaro said. “Yesterday Federal Education Minister Dan Tehan indicated Term 2 will be online for most students nationally and I understand other jurisdictions are moving towards that model. “The Territory Government needs to kick into gear on how Term 2 will roll out in Territory schools. “If children will be at home, working parents will need sufficient lead time to make arrangements with their workplaces or find alternative ways to have their children supervised. “On the other side, teachers and schools need clear direction so they can ensure they are resourced appropriately. “I acknowledge the rapidly changing environment in which we now live, but our kids, their families and the workforce requires greater clarity,” Mrs Finocchiaro concluded.
