February Candidate Announcement
The Country Liberal Party has today endorsed another nine candidates for the 2020 Territory general election. CLP President Ron Kelly said the caliber of candidates was again outstanding, with quality, passionate people putting their hands up for the job. “This is a really exciting day, and a day I know many Territorians have been looking forward to,” he said. “Territorians can have faith that this new look and feel CLP team are the real alternative at the ballot in August. “We hear Territorians loud and clear – fix the economy, and do something about crime.” “We’ve been smothered by a Labor Government who have no real leadership, no direction, and no idea how to govern. “They’ve decimated our economy, our streets are unsafe and people are packing their bags and leaving, and this is not good enough.” Mr Kelly said the count down was well and truly on. “We are now focusing on the Johnston by-election, with Josh Thomas a committed local candidate who’s passionate about the area,” he said. “This by-election will be telling, and the CLP is ready to go.” Blain: Matthew Kerle ICT Consultant Matthew is proudly raising his young family in the Territory. Matthew comes from a family of small business owners and understands how fundamental small business is to our Territory economy. Drysdale: Leanne Butler Works as a case manager for Salvation Army, focusing on homelessness and helping people get back on their feet through providing support for employment and housing. Leanne and her family, including her grandchild, all live in Palmerston. Arafura: Gibson Farmer Illortaminni Born and bred at Milikapiti community and Chairman of the Tiwi Land council, Gibson is passionate about being able to give the opportunity of an education to the young on Tiwi, such as the one he was afforded as a young child. He is works tirelessly to make ensure there are Employment opportunities in the Tiwis while maintaining the importance of life and culture for everyone. He is particularly interested in land sea management through his employment with the Conversation Commission. Gibson and his wife have three children and 15 grandchildren. Fannie Bay: Tracey Hayes Lifelong Territorian and former CEO of the highly influential Northern Territory Cattlemen’s Association, Tracey brings a wealth of experience, understanding and capability to the this new CLP team. Through her diverse background in international trade and development, Tracey has diverse skills across multiple stakeholders at national and international levels. Her experience in the Asian market will be valued in this new team.. Fong Lim: Kylie Bonnani Former Businesswomen and Alice Springs deputy Mayor, Kylie brings a wealth of experience in promoting the Territory as a world class tourist destination. Kylie has three adult children who are proud to live here in the territory. Nightcliff: Steve Doherty A long term Territorian, former Basketballer and Electrician by trade, Steve is currently working as a consultant to an indigenous organisation in Darwin. He is passionate about homelessness and itinerant strategies and the welfare of all Territorians. He is proud grandfather of two little girls. Barkly: Steven Edgington Superintendent of Police and current Mayor of Barkly Regional Council, Steve has worked tirelessly to champion the Barkly region, including the Barkly Regional Deal. He lives and breathes the Barkly. Steve and his wife Nicci have been married 27 years and have four children. Sanderson: Derek Mayger Long-term Territorian, Derek has a strong legal and financial background and is the current CFO/Principal legal officer of the Tiwi Land council.
