Candidate for Arafura
I was born in 1958 on Melville Island and attended School in Snake Bay, I move with my family to Paru when my Dad went to mainland to join the defence force.
I then left in 1968 to attend School in Brisbane, a couple of years later was back in Darwin and attended Kormilda College Boarding School in Berrimah where I completed my education.
My family and I have lived in the NT, on the Tiwi Islands for over 25 years, my wife and I have two children and seven grandchildren.
I have close family ties in Arnhem and throughout the Top End.
I have been the Chairman of the Tiwi land Council for the past 11 years; I have been elected 3 times to hold the position of Chair and the Deputy Chair of the Tiwi Plantations Corporation.
I have held and are on various positions on different boards on the Island, and now I am also on the FSC Indigenous Working Group where am able to contribute my extensive knowledge to the Forestry Industries of 34 years of experience, which is a vital Industry in the Top End.
I have a background and studies on research on Mental Health as project officer for Support to Rural Communities – Youth Suicide Prevention Intervention.
In my position I have firsthand sight and have seen the increase of crime, homelessness, health and decline in education , that Indigenous Australian are challenged with due to the lack of strong leadership, I think it’s the right time for me to step up take a role with the CLP to assist rebuild the Top End and make our streets saver – for not only for the Territorians but our visiting Australians and Tourist which will help our economy.
I am ready to serve the Indigenous community as they are my own people in the Top End.
