My father’s family is from Alice Springs where my brother, father, grandmother and aunt currently reside. I have chosen to make Darwin my home and have always found that the Northern Territory provides unique opportunities and a lifestyle that our cousins down south simply do not have. That must be maintained. Currently, I am a commercial lawyer in Darwin and I run the commercial practice at an international law firm. We specialise in construction, major projects, government and property. Previously, I gained my expertise from an international law firm down south specialising in corporate finance (syndicated, club and bi-lateral lending) and the development of financing of projects in the energy and infrastructure sectors (conventional and renewables) including oil, gas, water, mining and transportation. Prior to that I worked at a national law firm in the Territory where I cut my teeth on ‘everything’ Northern Territory related.
However, most importantly, I believe the Territory must prosper and continue to prosper. Freedoms are being curtailed, business is being strangled in red tape and the once famous ‘can do’ spirit in neither celebrated nor easily found. However, as we all know, the Territory is a place of opportunity where anyone willing to give it a go can make something of themselves, whatever that is they choose to be. The choice is about the freedom to choose, the freedom to contribute to your community and the freedom to live a peaceful life free of interruption and interference. That’s why my focus will be on the economy, jobs, crime, anti-social behaviour, reduction of red-tape and curtailing anti-freedom legislation. We choose to live in the Territory for a reason and it is imperative that our rights, lifestyle and communities are protected.
Port Darwin is my community and the Territory is my home. I believe we are all in this together and I will be out speaking to constituents in Port Darwin to find out what is important to them and how we can make the change required to ensure every Territorian, regardless of race or gender, is able to live their best possible life. The time for change is now.
